"Recently studies have shown that single sex education helps to promote equality by not stigmatizing women with sexual stereotypes. We've known that since 1971. Keough encouraged us to consider non-traditional careers. As a result of this encouragement I never considered that I could not do a job simply because of my gender. Faculty members at Keough challenged me to make this world a better place. I am eternally grateful" -Sandra Sylvester, J.D., Class of 1975 American Prosecutor's Research Institute Alexandria, Virginia Academics: An Overview At Bishop Keough we believe that all studentsare capable of learning and succeeding, but we recognize that students have varied learning styles. Based on this understanding we strive to employ a wide variety of teaching techniques and a wide variety of assessments that meet the learning styles of our students. Reflective of our environment and the mission of the school, we strive to integrate Christian teachings into class content. We work to instill in the student a sense of belonging to the total Christian community and a sense of responsibility and service to one another as well as the larger community. We believe that the school must be future-oriented, preparing students for their places in the world of work,as citizens of a local and global community and as family members. Each student is encouraged to reach her own individual level of achievement. It is our intent to stimulate a curiosity of the world, which results in life-long learning. |
