ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the English Department are:

  • Students will be effective communicators.

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to understand and respond to a wide variety of texts.

  • Students will know the processes used to construct and convey meaning through text and will develop and apply criteria for the evaluation and appreciationof their own and others' texts.

  • Students will use themes and topics from text to make connections and demonstrate an understanding of diversity through exploration of universal issues.

FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Fine Arts Department are:

  • Students will engage in self or group expression by creating original works of art and by interpreting works of art.

  • Students will use art skills to better process knowledge from and to other content areas by enhancing critical thinking skills.

  • Students will be provided with a format in which they are motivated to work out problems; thereby enabling each student to strengthen her patience, confidence and courage.

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of art within personal, historical, and social contexts - stressing the importance of the role they play as Christians.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Foreign Language Department are:

  • Students will communicate in a language other than English.

  • Students will gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

  • Through the study of foreign languages, students will develop insight into the nature of language and culture.

  • Students will use foreign languages to participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world.

HEALTH/PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Health/Physical Education Department are:

  • Students will understand concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention as a foundation for a healthy life.

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid health information, products and services.

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills, goal setting and decision making to enhance health.

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, community and environmental health.

MATH DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Math Department are:

  • Students will demonstrate problem solving and reasoning skills.

  • Students will apply math skills to understanding the world around them.

  • Students will apply mathematical ideas to the world around them.

  • Students will engage in reasoning and develop their own understanding of complex mathematical concepts

RELIGION DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Religion Department are:

  • Students will be able to apply Christian values to everyday decision-making and experiences.

  • Students will understand that all choices involve morality.

  • Students will, through service learning, apply Catholic social teachings in a real and practical manner.

  • Students will be able to assess their own values and beliefs through a Catholic-Christian lens.

SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Science Department are:

  • Students will demonstrate competence in the use of the scientific method.

  • Students will appreciate the beauty and complexity of life by investigating the structure and functions of living organisms.

  • Students will acquire knowledge in the use of scientific equipment.

  • Students will develop basic scientific literacy with an understanding of key scientific concepts and principles.

SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Social Studies Department are:

  • Students will recognize the importance of civic responsibility and civic participation.

  • Students will have a critical understanding of history, geography, economics, psychology, sociology and political science.

  • Students will have understanding of the diversity of world cultures including values, traditions, and social institutions.

  • Students will be able to analyze the human condition from many different perspectives - crossing cultural, gender and socioeconomic boundaries.

TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The goals and objectives of the Technology Department are:

  • Students will have an understanding of the basic operations and concepts of technology systems.

  • Students will understand the social, ethical, and human issues related to technology.

  • Students will demonstrate proficiency of technology productivity tools, communication tools and research tools.

  • Students use technology to develop problem-solving and decision-making skills.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Keough offers a rigorous program of study designed to challenge each student's cognitive abilities. All of the courses offered are college preparatory, which means that students are presented with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to achieve success in college or in the world of work. Every discipline encourages life long learning for their content area and each discipline encourages effective communication skills in creative, written and oral form. The faculty is quick to respond to the intellectual needs of the students. Graduation Requirements include:

  • 3 years of science (Biology, Chemistry, Physiology)

  • 2 years of social studies (US and World History)

  • 2 years of foreign languages (Spanish)

  • 4 years of English

  • 4 years of Religion

  • 3 years of Math (Algebra I & II, Geometry)

  • 4 years of Health and Physical Education

  • 3 semesters of Computer Technology

  • 3 semesters of Fine Arts

  • 3 electives (Psychology, Sociology, World Cultures, Study Skills, Women's Studies, Spanish III, Math IV, IC3, A+ Certification)
